ZX Spectrum 48K / 128K

The rubber-keyboard 8-bit legend that shaped a generation of coders in Europe. Full Z80 emulation, BASIC, tape/snapshot loading. Powered by JSSpeccy 3 by Matt Westcott (GPL-3.0).

How to start
  1. The emulator boots to the Sinclair BASIC screen.
  2. Click inside the screen area to give it keyboard focus.
  3. Try: PRINT "HELLO" Enter
  4. Use the top menu to load a snapshot (.z80/.sna) or tape (.tap/.tzx).
Keyboard tips
  • The Spectrum uses keyword shortcuts instead of typing full commands. On real hardware, pressing P at the prompt typed PRINT. In this emulator you can type letter-by-letter.
  • Enter is Enter. Shift = Caps Shift. Ctrl = Symbol Shift.
  • LOAD "" = load next tape block
Where to find games / tapes

The largest archive is Spectrum Computing and World of Spectrum — 50,000+ tapes/snapshots. Download a .tap, .tzx, .z80 or .sna file and drop it onto the emulator.

Licensing: authorised non-commercial use

ZX Spectrum ROMs are copyright Amstrad plc (current owner of the Sinclair brand). Amstrad has explicitly authorised free non-commercial use of the ROM images in emulators since 1999. This deployment falls squarely within that permission.
